Tree Planting
Whilst we try to reduce our carbon emissions as much as possible with our green servers and choice of datacentre, we recognise that 100% neutrality is not attainable without carbon offsetting. That's why we plant a tree to offset the carbon on every server rented from us.
All carbon in the service we provide is offset through UK tree plantations. Trees absorb carbon dioxide to produce oxygen and wood as part of the process of photosynthesis, which allows them to grow. Through this process CO2 is converted into stored carbon, thereby removing it from the atmosphere. Most estimates suggest a tree will absorb around 1 tonne of CO2 through their long life.
UK Woods and Forests
All our tree planting takes place in the UK and uses native and bio-diverse species. Our chosen location lies on the Exmoor foothills in Somerset, South-West England. The land was previously used as improved pasture land. It had historically been managed to produce a good growth of grass for grazing. With the plantation taking shape as an area of tradiional woodland, significant biodiversity gains have been observed with mice, badgers and birds of prey often seen.
Carbon offsetting is not a cure but it does help reduce the impact of our actions.
